Andrew McGrane

Over the past 35 years I have worked across a range of sectors including healthcare, education, technology, construction, and manufacturing. My roles have included psychotherapist, visiting university lecturer/mentor (UCD and DCU), team management, business development and entrepreneurship. My lived experience working across such diverse sectors has given me a unique insight into work-life challenges and adolescent experiences in schools/colleges. I am a motivated, compassionate, and caring individual who thoroughly enjoys the opportunity of working with individuals, families, and diverse groups. I believe psychotherapy has never been so needed in our society, providing a safe, non-judgemental space for people to explore issues (big and small) impacting their lives.

I am a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapist (registered with IACP) with significant experience working with adolescents, parents and in men’s mental health. My areas of expertise include stress, anxiety, depression, hopelessness, career change and development and anger. I am particularly skilled in supporting individuals/families through educational challenges (as experienced in school/college), family/work relationships, and life transitions at all ages. My own professional knowledge and experience, and indeed my own personal life experience combine to enable me assist clients achieve greater insight and perspectives into their challenges, and how they might be resolved and/or integrated into their lives. I strongly believe that a non-judgmental, supportive, and warm approach creates a safe and trusting environment in which to work.

I am married and a father of four adult children. Outside of work, my personal interests through the years have included spending time with family and friends, coaching underage Gaelic football and soccer (boys and girls), participating in sport, playing music, and charitable volunteering.

Therapeutic approaches I use include Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Theory (CBT), Positive Psychology, Systemic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Psychodynamic.

My studies include:

  • Advanced Diploma working Therapeutically with Adolescents (current)

  • Diploma Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy

  • BA(HONS) Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy

  • MSc Management Sustainable Development

  • Dip. Eng. Electronic Engineering

1

Individual

Individuals can experience a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, distress, fear, depression, low self-esteem and anger. Such issues can arise for different possible reasons.

Adapting proven

therapeutic methods helps meet the specific needs of each client to achieve goals which bring about life changes.

2

Parental

Parents (guardians) may need support within their personal relationships with each other and/or with their children.

Personal issues with an adolescent or with either (or both) parents can have implications in the wider family. Identifying new ways of thinking, understanding and interacting can have very positive outcomes for all concerned.

3

Group

Groups (such as families, peers, and teams (in sport & workplace), typically operate as systems. Significant challenges can exist for individuals or to the wider group as a whole.

Proven approaches for change can be adapted to help people navigate relationships within and across a group by understanding and managing interactional patterns and the group dynamics.
